Welcome to Singapore Record Shop
After the end of the Second World War and on into the 1970s, phonograph records, or simply "records", were the most popular medium of sound recording. The most popular format is the LP made of vinyl. In fact, even now at the end of the 20th century and at the start of the 21st century, records have retained a fair amount of popularity even when faced with the more compact alternatives, the audio cassette, and the now vastly popular compact disc (CD). These days, records occupy a sort of niche market aimed at collectors and enthusiasts looking for authentic period recordings of bands from the '50s, '60s, and '70s. Some modern bands, for the most part of the punk music genre, have recorded singles and even entire albums on records.
Understandably, record shops selling only vinyl records and LP records are now fairly rare, though there are a fair number of "pure" online record shops. The term "record shop" is now also used to describe a shop where CDs are sold, not only records. At the local level, the record shop market is dominated by large chain retailers with large selections of recorded music, whereas online there is a fairly sizeable number of mail-order shops offering both records and CDs. Whether you prefer shopping for music from your own home or getting out and browsing among the aisles of records and CDs, these records shops can help you.
